What is a Geka Ironworker?

Geka USA has been a steel working machine manufacturer since 1919. Geka’s headquarters are located in Oiartzun, Spain, a municipality in the Basque country. With many years of experience, the Geka ironworker, or more commonly known as a punching and shearing machine, has become an industry standard famous for its durability, accuracy, precision, versitility and user-friendly operation.

Geka ironworkers may be used in your manufacturing operations for the punching and shearing of profiles, angles, and flat bars. Our range of different lines and products, varying in punching power and size, means that there’s a Geka hydraulic ironworker machine for many different metalworking tasks.

There are three main types of ironworkers: reinforcing, structural, and ornamental. While being pioneers in developing punching and shearing machines, they are constantly adjusting and improving them to meet the needs of the market and customers.

The range of different lines and products, varying in punching power and size, allows for a choice of Geka ironworker models for many different metalworking tasks. Sterling Machinery has several options of Gekas on the showroom floor. Geka’s models each have specialized uses and are strong Ironworkers that may be fitted with a wide range of Geka accessories for every punching need.  There are several GEKA models of strong, versatile and reliable hydraulic ironworkers. They all accomplish the task for punching, notching, cutting and bending profiles, steel plates, angles and bars.

Geka has three different models of one-cylinder ironworkers: the MicrocropMinicrop, and Multicrop models. These are all to be handled by one single worker at a time and include up four stationsThe MicrocropMinicrop, and Multicrop Geka models feature a small hydraulic cylinder and three workstations for punching, shearing flat bars, and for cutting angles.   One hydraulic includes all the same features as the Minicrop models.  It has an additional angle shearing section for cutting angles at 45” #SMPUMA55S currently on our floor now is a 60 ton brand new Geka.

The Geka HYDRACROP is the most efficient dual cylinder iron worker sold on the market today. The Geka Hydracrop 55/110 is an ironworker machine with twin operators allowing for higher speeds, higher capacity, and, with its two working areas, allowing two workers to utilizing the machine simultaneously. Like the other machines in the Hydracrop series, the ironworker includes five workstations on which different optional equipment and accessories from Geka may be mounted. #

The Puma Series of GEKA ironworkers consists of 5 different models with varying punching powers including die punching.  The models range in punching power from 60 to 240 US Tons with various throat depths. See our #SMPUMA55s. Geka’s Puma series. each feature a single workstation for punching flat bars and profiles.

The Geka Bendicrop Series of hydraulic machines consists of three models: the Bendicrop 50, a single-cylinder ironworker machine, and the Bendicrop 60 and 85, Both of these models are two-cylinder machines that have the capability of being operated by two users at the same time. The Bendicrop Series of machines come fitted with six workstations for different metalworking tasks: punching, notching, shearing flat bars, angle cutting, shearing round and square bars, and an integrated bending station. The permanent integrated bending station makes these machines unique solutions in the ironworking market. The machines are also fitted with Geka’s own anti-torsion system that reduces deformation when shearing flat bars.

The PP Series of portable punching machines is one of two Geka lines of hydraulic punching machines. Gekas PP Series offers two portable punching machines, both of which have punching powers of 55 US tons and are mounted on wheels for ease of displacement, The PP Series differs from the Puma Series in that the two portable hydraulic punch press models in the PP Series are mounted on wheels, making them ideal if you require portability and ease of displacement.

    Ironworker Machine FAQs

    What is an ironworker machine?

Often referred to as the “Swiss Army Knife” of fabrication, an ironworker machine is a cost-effective way to punch, shear, notch, and bend metal. It can punch holes of various shapes and sizes, shear rods, flat bars, and angle irons, and handle many other fabricating tasks with optional tooling.

    When is an ironworker used?

An ironworker is often the first step in the fabrication process. A single machine can prepare enough material to keep an entire shop’s welders supplied. They’re commonly used in construction, manufacturing, and metal processing for punching diameters, shearing stock, and preparing parts quickly.

What types of ironworkers are available?

There are two basic styles: fully integrated European-style ironworkers and component-tool tabletop machines. Tonnage, punching diameter, and material thickness capacity should be considered when choosing the right ironworker for your needs.

What are the most popular ironworker brands?

Top ironworker brands include Scotchman, Amada Marvel, Piranha, Baileigh, Geka, Mubea, and US Industrial. Popular models include the Scotchman Porta-Fab 45, the Piranha P50, P90, and P120, and the Geka Microcrop, Bendicrop, and Hydracrop.

What size ironworker do I need?

The most common sizes are 60-ton and 130-ton ironworkers, though capacities range from small 45-ton units to heavy-duty 150-ton dual-operation hydraulic machines. Choosing the right machine depends on your material thickness, diameter capacity, and intended operations.

Save Time and Money With a Used Ironworker

Buying a used ironworker machine is a smart way to save money while gaining productivity. A quality used ironworker from a trusted brand can reduce hours of drill time and manual cutting. Sterling Machinery carries a wide range of used machines, fully inspected and ready to work.
