An ironworker has the nickname of the Swiss Army Knife in the fabrication industry. In a small compact space an ironworker can do a range of jobs such as punching holes of various shapes and sizes, shear a rod, flat bar, and angle iron with special tooling. Scotchman Iron workers save labor time, energy and cost. Hours of drill time, quick shearing and bending.

Why choose American Made Scotchman? For over 50 years Scotchman Industries has been the leading manufacturer of metal fabricating equipment. The Scotchman Ironworkers are USA made quality machines that save time, increase productivity, eliminate waste, and create smooth cuts and holes.

A Scotchman ironworker is generally the first step in manufacturing process. One ironworker can provide enough fabricated material for all welders in your manufacturing plant to increase productivity. Be sure to compare the rating of the machine not only in tons but also the diameter of the hole and thickness of the material it can punch. There are two basic styles of ironworkers, a fully integrated European Style and component tool tabletop. Not all tons are created equal so when choosing a Scotchman Ironworker let the experts at Sterling Machinery Exchange and Fabrication assist you with the best choice for your fabricating needs.

The most popular New and Used Scotchman ironworkers are the Porta-Fab 45, both available in 50 ton model 50514-EC and the 65 ton model 6509-24M. With a 45-ton punching capacity, the Porta-Fab 45 ironworker can punch 1-1/8" hole through 1/2" mild steel. It runs on 110-volt power from your standard wall outlet or generator. Its a 3-in-1 combination tool consisting of a flat bar shear, rod shear, and an angle. This versatile workstation tool area allows additional tooling to be easily swapped in and out so you can customize the machine to fit your need

The 6509-24M model offers a Tool table work area with a two stage hydraulic pump and a 65 ton punch station and a ¼” x 24” Flat Bar shear with a Brake attachment to match. The Electrical box has an emergency palm button and lock-out tag-out as well as all guards necessary to comply with current safety standards.  It’s equipped to run with a single operation and has 4 stations. It also has an adjustable electric stroke control with scale and forklift accommodations. Talk to us about your requirements and we can help you decide which Scotchman Ironworker is best for you.

    Ironworker Machine FAQs

    What is an ironworker machine?

Often referred to as the “Swiss Army Knife” of fabrication, an ironworker machine is a cost-effective way to punch, shear, notch, and bend metal. It can punch holes of various shapes and sizes, shear rods, flat bars, and angle irons, and handle many other fabricating tasks with optional tooling.

    When is an ironworker used?

An ironworker is often the first step in the fabrication process. A single machine can prepare enough material to keep an entire shop’s welders supplied. They’re commonly used in construction, manufacturing, and metal processing for punching diameters, shearing stock, and preparing parts quickly.

What types of ironworkers are available?

There are two basic styles: fully integrated European-style ironworkers and component-tool tabletop machines. Tonnage, punching diameter, and material thickness capacity should be considered when choosing the right ironworker for your needs.

What are the most popular ironworker brands?

Top ironworker brands include Scotchman, Amada Marvel, Piranha, Baileigh, Geka, Mubea, and US Industrial. Popular models include the Scotchman Porta-Fab 45, the Piranha P50, P90, and P120, and the Geka Microcrop, Bendicrop, and Hydracrop.

What size ironworker do I need?

The most common sizes are 60-ton and 130-ton ironworkers, though capacities range from small 45-ton units to heavy-duty 150-ton dual-operation hydraulic machines. Choosing the right machine depends on your material thickness, diameter capacity, and intended operations.

Save Time and Money With a Used Ironworker

Buying a used ironworker machine is a smart way to save money while gaining productivity. A quality used ironworker from a trusted brand can reduce hours of drill time and manual cutting. Sterling Machinery carries a wide range of used machines, fully inspected and ready to work.
